Ready for LCSW Supervision? I’m Lauren Butcher, and I want to be your social work supervisor

Texas Board–approved LCSW supervisor providing flexible online individual and group supervision for LMSWs seeking Texas LCSW licensure

LMSW Supervision Rooted in Experience, Insight, and Support

I'm Lauren Butcher, LCSW-S, and I offer trauma-informed, developmentally grounded, and fully virtual LCSW supervision for LMSWs across Texas. My supervision is rooted in a holistic clinical worldview—drawing on neuroscience, childhood development, cultural competency, emotional regulation, family systems, trauma, attachment, and micro/macro systems—to help you grow into a confident, ethical, and independent social worker.

I have an expansive range of experience that spans over 25 years through legal advocacy to clinical social work, EMDR therapy, trauma, child development, intensive psychiatric issues, teens, adults, substance use, family systems, high-conflict child custody issues, adoption, crisis intervention, ADHD, ASD (both adult and child), behavioral intervention, grief & loss, relationships, toxic family systems, abuse issues, childhood adverse experiences, adversity, and more.

We focus on clinical skill-building, whole-person development, and preparing for the LCSW exam and independent licensure.

  • How Long Does it Take?

How Long Does It Take to Become an LCSW in Texas?

You must complete 100 hours of supervision over at least 24 months

You must also complete 3,000 clinical work hours

Supervision cannot be completed in under 24 months

Part-time supervisees can extend their supervision to 3–5 years

Important: Any clinical hours you worked before starting supervision do not count, so the sooner you begin, the better.

  • What Sets My Supervision Apart

You’ll get more than case consultation — you’ll be trained to think critically and holistically as a clinician. Each month includes:

Discussion groups: Case reviews, DSM-5-TR use, ethical dilemmas, treatment planning

Training groups: topics such as clinical documentation, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, macro and micro systems, family systems, clinical practice issues and building your private practice

I also include business and leadership discussions — because I believe in preparing you not just to practice, but to lead.

Does My Job Qualify for LCSW Supervision?

If you're assessing, diagnosing, or treating mental health or substance use issues using DSM-5-TR criteria—you likely qualify for LCSW supervision. You don’t need to make formal diagnoses—using clinical judgment, screening tools, or therapeutic interventions counts.
Working in a non-clinical social work role? That’s okay—as long as you’re doing at least 4 hours of clinical work per week somewhere else (even at a second job), you can still qualify. Jobs that often meet this criteria include roles in hospitals, hospice, home health, outpatient programs, schools, APS, CPS, HHSC, non-profits, insurance companies in social work roles, the VA Hospital, community service jobs, prisons, etc.
Not sure if your setup qualifies? Let’s talk—I’m happy to help you sort it out to make sure your job qualifies.

Getting Started

Once you're ready to begin, we'll complete a supervision agreement and clinical plan together. You'll also receive a template letter for your employer to sign, confirming that you’re receiving supervision externally. No documents need to be submitted to the board until you've completed supervision and passed the LCSW exam.

Documentation

To stay on track, organized and stress-free I recommend setting up a dedicated supervision binder or a clearly labeled digital folder (e.g., in Google Drive or Dropbox). In it, keep all key documents: Supervision logs (hours + months), work hours, forms, notes or reflections (optional but helpful for learning and licensure interviews). My scheduling system automatically tracks your supervision dates and hours, but keeping your own copy is required by BHEC—and it's a smart habit for your professional records. Already have past supervision experience? If you have a signed verification form—even from another state—BHEC may accept it toward your Texas requirements. This can save you time, so be sure to include it in your documentation.

Tools

You’ll receive forms, templates and access to my online scheduling and I provide all the tools necessary for tracking your hours and supervision — ensuring your hours are organized and board-ready.
I’ll guide you in maintaining accurate records of:
  • Monthly supervision attendance
  • Total supervision hours
  • 3,000 clinical work hours
